Opinion time! Jalen Hurts is a top 5 quarterback. There, I said it. The sports media pundits do not want to admit it, even though, they all admitted Patrick Mahomes and Tom Brady in the Top 5 QB conversation immediately after they won there first Super Bowl. Why is there so much hesitation? Simple. Jalen Hurts is not for all the lights, glitz and glam that the NFL world has to offer. Who could blame him? The sports world tried to destroy him after he was benched at the 2018 College Football Playoff Champion for Alabama in favor for Tua Tagovailoa. The backlash and heavy criticism continued after Jalen Hurts lost to Patrick Mahomes in the 2023 Super Bowl. Immense praise was given to Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson, and Joe Burrow that year (even though they did not make it to the Super Bowl), but nothing but condemnation was speared at Jalen Hurts. Not that some critism was not warranted, but the constant disrespect was consistent throughout the years leading up to Jalen Hurts winning his Lombardi trophy.
The truth of the matter is, Jalen Hurts and the Philadelphia Eagles were a better team than Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs. To be clear, Patrick Mahomes is a better QB than Jalen Hurts, however, the Eagles have always had a better team. Jalen Hurts played near flawless in both the Super Bowls he played in, yet, people are now realizing this (or now have no choice but to talk about it). This is the reason why Jalen Hurts and the Eagles won Sunday night.
Honestly the world should have seen this coming. The Eagles were locked in all season, and adding Saquon Barkley to the mix was the icing on the cake. This is not to say that Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs did not take the Super Bowl seriously, however it did show that the team was riding on the coattails of their previous success, to the point where they were blindsided by how dominant the Eagles were during the game. Maybe ego got in the way of the Chiefs? Possibly. Winning so much with little to no competition can take someone’s eyes off of the main thing, winning.
As for Jalen Hurts, he kept the main thing the main thing Sunday night, and that is why he will be the face of the NFL in 8 months and not Patrick Mahomes.
