“I had a purpose before everybody had an opinion” is the standout quote that is going viral on the internet from the Super Bowl MVP and face of the NLF, Jalen Hurts. Long time followers of Jalen Hurts have always heard his words of wisdom over the years, so it’s a relief to see all his wisdom in the mainstream
Jalen Hurts is the most criticized NFL QB and could honestly be the most criticized QB in the NFL, despite two Super Bowl appearances and a win. Majority of the criticism Jalen Hurts receives has no base/reason at all. Even now a few days after the Super Bowl, sports pundits are questioning if Jalen Hurts is a great QB or if he should be in the top 5 QB discussion. One thing is for sure, Jalen did not allow the opinion of others stop him from winning a Super Bowl.
“Money is nice, Championships are better” has sparked a ton of debate in the NFL world as quite a few NFL QBs in the past and present have accumulated millions of dollars in paychecks, but do not have a championship win to their name. Dan Marino and Fran Tarkenton are noted as some of the best QBs to ever play, that raked in the coins, however they both have never won a Super Bowl. In Hurts opinion, hoisting the Lombardi Trophy is better than the millions sitting in his bank account (or investments).
“Keep the main thing, the main thing” has come true this past Sunday. Jalen Hurts and the Philadelphia Eagles did not let their previous loss to the Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs distract them from dominating the Chiefs. They kept winning, like they did almost the entire season, the main thing. Maybe if Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs kept the main thing the main thing, they would have their historic three peat.
“Be you, that’s always enough” is the quote that Jalen Hurts proudly boasts on his Instagram account. Throughout the years Jalen Hurts has been under question for his “lack of leadership skills” and has allegedly been asked by many to be more social in the locker room in order to be a great leader. Some even said that the Philadelphia Eagles would deflate after the future Hall of Famer Jason Kelce decided to retire last year. Jalen Hurts may have made some changes, however, none of the questioning and Jason Kelce’s departure stopped Jalen Hurts from taking the team to the Super Bowl and winning. The common consensus from those around Jalen Hurts is that he has stayed consistent throughout his time in the NFL, which further proves that being himself is enough to not just win games, but to win a ring. Why would he want to be anyone else, when he is bringing home the Lombardi trophy as himself?
All in all everyone can learn from Jalen Hurts. There will be seasons in which everyone will downright tear you apart for little to no reasoning, but that should not stop you from winning in life. Even if you do make a few mistakes, keep the main thing the main thing.
